Women of Enterprise Forum and Scholarship Fund

Why “WE”

The Women of Enterprise (WE) Forum was established by the University of Denver’s Franklin L. Burns School of Real Estate and Construction Management to provide educational outreach and networking opportunities to members of the real estate and construction industry. An additional goal of this effort is to recruit qualified females into the Burn’s School programs, provide them with financial support through scholarships and to support on-going Burns programs.

The Women of Enterprise Scholarship Fund

Consistently, only a small percentage of the students enrolled in the Burns School are female students. The focus of the scholarship fund is two-fold: To provide financial assistance to females enrolled in the real estate and construction management program, and to support the industry by providing well rounded female graduates. The WE scholarship is open to all undergraduate and graduate females enrolled in a program at the Burns School. The effort has raised over $120,000 for scholarships for women attending the Burns School at the University of Denver. The Burns School has already awarded $97,000 of this money and set the remainder aside to help build an endowment so the WE Scholarship can be awarded into perpetuity. Sponsors of the event help support this fund as well as other on-going programs of the Burns School.

The Women of Enterprise Forum

The Burns School holds the distinction of being one of the only real estate and construction management program located in a business school in the nation. The Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver holds several national rankings including being the only business school in Colorado to be honored in Business Week’s top 50 undergraduate business schools and a number three ranking nationally in The Wall Street Journal for ethical standards for graduate business schools. A DU education can serve as a springboard to getting a job and has the ability to instill a sense of accomplishment for all who earn a degree. WE wants to ensure that as many people as possible are educated about the real estate and construction industry as well as encouraging as many women as possible to realize their goals of advancing within that industry.

What started as an idea for a forum to highlight women leaders in the real estate and construction management industry quickly turned into a hugely successful event. This was due in great part to the dynamic leadership of the incredible women who have chaired the event since its inception. These women set the bar for their committees to achieve amazing success:
  • 2004 - Candis Hewitt, Senior Director (Cushman & Wakefield, Inc. N.A.),
  • 2005 - Janet Perlstein, Shareholder, Lottner Rubin Fishman Brown & Saul, PC,
  • 2006 - Natasha Felton, President (Colorado Commercial Companies),
  • 2007 - Anne Rosen, Principal (ZING! Development Company) and,
  • 2008 - Marilee Utter, President (Citiventure Associates, LLC).
  • 2009 - Iris Foster, Principal, Commercial Real Estate Consulting
  • 2010 - Patricia Gage, Senior Vice President, Real Estate Lending Manager, Colorado Business Bank
  • 2011 - Daunine Mandarich - Real Estate Manager, CBRE Asset Services
  • 2013 - Sherri Goldstein, Assistant Vice President, Land Title Guarantee Company
